Planning a Wedding in Months Not Years

Oct 10, 2024

There seems to be this common myth, probably not helped by TV, Film and stressed out Brides on Social Media that you need at least a Year to plan your wedding. I’m here to tell you a secret, you don’t!

Planning a wedding in 5, 3 or even just 1 month is entirely possible. Not only is it possible it can actually be less stressful than a longer lead time, as you don’t have time to build the pressure of your big day up in your mind.

A shorter lead time is not for everyone but if you think it might be for you there are a few things to keep in mind.

Think about what you want.

STOP! Don’t Open Pinterest!

While the twinkly personal details are good fun to plan at the end of the day these are not the things that make your wedding. You need to sit down with your fiancé and discuss the really important things. If you want an intermate wedding of 50 people or a larger affair. The time of year you want to get married. Your budget. Any other important details like giving a nod to your heritage or having an outdoor ceremony.

Find Your Perfect Venue.

Hello!

Joking aside choosing a venue like Elms Barn that is an exclusive wedding venue may give you some more flexibility with available dates as you don’t need to negotiate hotel guests or members of the public in a restaurant. Elms Barn will also allow you to put a date on hold for 7 days so if you do come for a viewing and fall in love with the venue I would recommend putting a date on hold straight away as with any shorter notice wedding you are going to be up against other couples who are going to want to book quickly.

You may also want to opt for somewhere that has a built-in planner, Hello Again! Although a dry hire venue may work for you, unless you are a wedding planner it may become overwhelming especially with a shorter time scale. I am here to take all of the potential stress of planning your wedding and make it disappear. With over 6 years of wedding planning under my belt I can guide you through the planning process of your big day, take away all the boring logistical questions and leave you with the fun details to decide upon.

I want to make sure that the planning process as fun as possible and just because of a short lead time it doesn’t mean we need to cut the enjoyment out of planning.

Giving Notice

So you have found your perfect venue and got a date on hold its time to call a registrar. No matter if you want a civil, humanist or religious ceremony it will need to be legal. You will need to give notice of your intention to get married usually a minimum of four weeks prior to your wedding date. You may need to be flexible with the time you wan to get married if you are booking with less notice but that is no problem as at Elms Barn we start the planning for the ceremony time, we can adjust everything based on the registrars. Keep in mind you will probably have an easier time securing a registrar, and venue, in the off peak season.

Choosing the Perfect Menu.

Set menu is the way forward as you don’t need to wait for responses. Nothing worse than being on a deadline with relatives who are indecisive on their menu.

Elms Barns quality menu and experienced kitchen team will create something spectacular for you and all you will need to get back from your guests is allergies and who is a vegetarian.

Wedding Website

Speaking of relatives delaying in responding. Setting up a wedding website can allow for instant responses with no waiting for the postman to arrive. You can also update your guests on fun details as you book them or even add a google drive gallery or Instagram hashtag for your guests to upload their photos from your big day to.

Here at Elms Barn we have planned and delivered stunning weddings in as little as 5 WEEKS! No I’m not kidding! You are in safe hands here regardless of the time you have to plan your perfect day!
